The Palermo Street Food Tour starts in Piazza Verdi where the third-largest theater in Europe is located, the famous Teatro Massimo. We will proceed to Via Maqueda, a seventeenth-century street totally pedestrianized, to reach Piazza Villena, also known as “Quattro Canti” or “Teatro del Sole”. This is the meeting place of the two main arteries of the historic center of Palermo and the baroque heart of the city. Hear about the symbolic meaning of the square and the beautiful twelve statues that decorate it.
Then, we will continue to Piazza Pretoria to admire the magnificent Tuscan white marble fountain decorated with more than forty statues, and also the facade of the Palazzo delle Aquile, the City Hall. We will walk along the Cassaro, the longest artery of the city, to get to the Cathedral. A brief visit to this imposing building that represents the synthesis of the history of sacred architecture in Palermo.
Through the narrow streets behind the Cathedral, we will reach the Capo market, an ancient food market characterized by a unique atmosphere typical of North African souks. You will be struck by the voices of the vendors, the variety of products on display, the flavors and smells. A true sensory experience.
